scope mount

do you leave the rear sight on your rifle when you mount a scope?the mount sits on top of the rear sight mount on my long colt

If your scope clears the sight leave it on. If it don't clear the sight take it off.

its not the sight its self its the back of the elevator that's mounted on the barrel

If theres contact I'd take it off.
 There's movement of the barrel metal and everything else when the gun goes boom, I wouldn't want anything in the way to interfere with that natural movement.
 All it would need do is push just a little the wrong way at the right time, an you'll wonder why you can't keep the scope zeroed.  :P

If the elevator is removable and you have the elevation where you want it, take it out and clip, cut, grind, just shorten it. ;)
