Marlin Cowboy Prices
« on: March 30, 2011, 10:46:13 AM »
Am I crazy or over the last 2 months have the prices of the Marlin Cowboys shot into the astronomical range. A year ago even the hard to find ones were selling 650-750 now on Gunbroker people are bidding 7-800 on the common ones. Did something happen that I missed or is this a temporary bump?

Stupidity mostly. Things become worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. So long as folks are willing to pay outrageous prices then other folks will charge them.

they quit makeing alot of them and remington took over marlin and most all rifles are up in price. i have two cowboys,a 94 in 44-40 and a 336 in 38-55 . i bought both for 500.00 a piece. they are both very good rifles. now do you want to know what i paid for a 1892 winhchester in 44-40 made in 1917 or a marlin 1894 in 25-20 made in 1906 or how about a 1892 take down with half oct-round barrel in 38-40 made in 1913? i myself think the cowboys are a good buy. eastbank.

Eastbank,
I would buy both of the ones you have for the prices you paid.  :D Of course you tempt me with 2 of the ones I don't have.

Why is it that I KNEW someone would joke about buying one of those from Eastbank?   ;)

I agree completely with Greybeard; stupidity governs the prices on GunBroker or any electronic auction site for that matter.  I've seen used items sell for prices that one can buy new at a typical gun store.  As for the items that are no longer produced; people just don't have patience to wait until they find the right deal.  As soon as an item is bought for a low price, the other sellers should come down in price BUT, if you pay a high price, all you're doing is telling the other sellers that it's OK to sell for outrageous prices.  The buyer dictates the market for certain on GunBroker.

i go to a lot of gun auctions and agree with the waiting game, but now at 67 i buy guns that are antiques already as i don,t have the time left to wait. a good friend said to me,there are no roof racks on a hearse. if i want it, i buy it now and will let some one else worry about selling it. i just want to enjoy them for a while. eastbank.

Paid 600 for mine a year ago. Made in 2001 and never been fired. Wood is awesome.
