Where do you fish and what for? A 6 wt is a good all arounder but could be all wrong depending on what you are after. Also the area and type of water and fish determine the length of the rod as well.I have had great success with all of my St. Croix rods, about 7 of em. It might be a good idea to spend a bit more and get the Avid series though.:D

I like my 4 pc 6 weight Premier rod.  It casts well and is always in my truck all year with me just in case I get a chance to fish.  It gets the most work of all my rods.

I will be fishing ponds mostly and maybe a few streams.

I am planning on fishing for trout and bluegill, and maybe the occasional bass.

St.Croix are all great rods you can't go wrong there. For the fishing you are planning a 6wt. is about right. As far as length I would say anything from 8 to 9 ft. Just remember "don't go too cheap on the flyline" it's the most important part of the outfit. Good fishin and have fun. :D
