Bear Rugs Already!
« on: February 23, 2011, 05:55:48 PM »
Got a call from my taxidermist, sort of a surprise, I didn't expect the rugs to be ready yet. They look good!

I'll get a photo of my son's bear later, it's a little smaller, but not much. With more light on it, the bear looks chocolate brown. Here it looks pretty dark.

Nice looking rug, I have one also, it is a pain. I hit the head all the time with my toe or trip over it once in awhile. .. But it is a conversation piece.  ;D

Thanks guys. It was a great father-son hunt, and we each tagged good bears. The rugs will be a good reminder of that hunt in years to come.

Nice rug. On average how much does something like that cost to get made? Im flirting with the idea of going fall bear hunting for the meat but if affordable it would be nice to have a rug made too

Here in S. Mn. I have gotten quotes in the range of $100 - $110 / foot.  Measured hind foot to nose $110 or hind foot to fore foot $100. Mine was made from a bear that went about 240lbs in the fall, hung up it was 6' nose to tail. Cost me about $725 if I remember correctly.
