Older barrel w/no serial number
« on: March 25, 2011, 08:19:55 AM »
Simply put, were older HR's fitted without scribing the last three digits of its mated receiver onto the barrel tang?

Depends on how old, my old 1900 12ga and Topper 158 30-30 aren't,  but even some modern underlugs don't get marked, I've got at least one that isn't, bad day for someone at the factory I guess.  :-X

Seems all of my shotgun barrels are not marked with numbers
12g shortie w/chokes,Tamer .410,12g "Buck" slug gun w/20g extra barrel, 12g smooth bore tracker I, 45/410 w/22vp matched set, 7mm-08, .308 20",

my avatar pic is my 1960 Rambler I bought in 1972 for $175..6 banger 3-on-the-tree...drove it for 5 yrs  22mpg.. was "hot-rodding" (LOL) one night...tore out 1st/reverse gear. Drove it that way for 2 yrs(with no reverse and only 2nd and high)  Had to really plan ahead when parking.
sold it for $125

Last new CBA (or what ever the new serial code is) had no #s either.

Guess I shoulda added the receiver is an "NC" serial number...1988 vintage.  The 223 barrel without a number on the underlug coulda come from any date before last year.

I guess there is no way (now) to tell if the barrel and receiver were an original "match" except to say they sure shoot well together today.
