just how bad is Qaddafi?
« on: March 20, 2011, 05:34:01 PM »
Under Qaddafi, Libyans had the highest actual income per capita in Africa, and the lowest infant mortality rate. They had free university education and free healthcare for low-wage earners, including a medicine allowance and for those that qualified; a $76,000 wedding gift, home loans were available at 10% of a families yearly salary, gasoline at 44 cents a gallon, subsidized New-car purchases, 300,000 homes built for the poor, and a guarantee of land ownership for all Libyans ... Not exactly what you expected to find was it?

It has nothing to do with his goodness. He was a bad guy, then a good guy for ten years, and now a bad guy again according the the government. It is determined by his usefulness to the US. When it looked like he would be turned out by his own people, they said he must have outlived his calling, time to find another puppet.

So basically he was a better leader to his people then the one we are stuck with. ;D
If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong.

I think the reason for the good years is because someone sent a missile through one of his windows years ago.He saw the light so to speak.

Qaddafi is one of those guys that really sends some mixed messages. He is a well known supporter of terrorist groups but yet he is one of the few in the mid east that spent some of the wealth on the people. To look at just one side of him doesn't give the true story. Having said that; his support of terrorist groups puts him on the bad guy list, which is where he should be. I think the next guy who is placed in charge of Lybia will be an actual tyrant and much worse for the Lybian people.

So there we have it; our Obamanation has illegally (according to Dennis Kucinich)   attacked a sweet, innocent, benevolent, upstanding leader.  I say we hang him high.  And I'm not talking about Ghadafi.

Actually he wasn't all that bad at all until recently it seems.  ;)

What matters is we just attacked another country in the name of "he's now a bad guy", what business do we have telling another country anything at all?  We have none.  Especially when the people of these countries are smart enough to know that America has pumped our tax dollars into their dictators for many years, and also selling them military weapons to boot. Ya, I'm sure the people of those countries think we are something alright. The last thing they need is our corrupt government "helping" them.

Americans best wise up and elect some people who stop the war machine, or one of these days when we really need our solders, we won't have enough of them.  They will be everywhere but here.

Far as leaders go, right now we don't have a leader, you have a person who has no experience at all in anything but corruption and politics.

Let's see, our fed agents our selling guns to the drug cartel in Mexico, our CIA have trained the radical terrorists how to make bombs, we supply weapons to all the dictators of the world, and sometimes we kill our own people cause they live in a "compound".
Gee whizz...I don't think Qaddafi sounds bad enough to get anyone killed over there for.

Now that we have invaded, what are we prepared to do if one of our pilots bail out and get captured?  Anyone want to answer this one?
This is exactly how Iraq happened...and we really out to get the hell out of the Afghanistan country as well.
We don't have to be over there to fight terrorism or "bad guys"...all that stuff is right here inside our own borders.

Qaddafi must be the baddest of the bad!Remember when Sen Joe Biden said "And I quote"
War Without Congress Authorization Should Warrant Impeachment That was back in 2007 at a
Speech at the Scott County Democratic Party banquet, Davenport, Iowa on December 14, 2007.

And then we have the Big Kahuna himself back when he was just a Senator teaching us the Constitution.
"The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.".............Senator Barack Obama
December 20, 2007

I guess one must assume Qaddafi was planing an attack on the US after he put down his little rebellion.

I'm sure there are a dozen places out there that would be better off without "XX"...

But it's not our business, and sending our sons and daughters to these places when they are of no threat makes no sense.  We can't save the world, we need only to save our own country and we are not doing a good job of that.

Downside is that now American lives are at risk, not to mention the billions of $s it's costing us.  I thought they were doing a pretty good job without our help. Any idea how much fuel it takes to fly from Missouri to drop 40 bombs then fly back??? Not to mention the hundreds of rockets we've donated., or the daily sorties of our jet fighters.  POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Think your right on POWERMAN!

Obama says no fly zone and that Qaddafi could remain in power.  THEN proceeds to dismantle Qaddafi's ability to fight, targets his command/control then targets Qaddafi personally!  Obama wants to put his Muslem brotherhood in power even if disregarding congresses authority (yea or nay) to go to war!  Obama says no "boots" in Libya - Yeah, Let's see how long that will hold.  I think he's lying and fully intends to over throw Libya AND WE ARE ON THE WRONG SIDE!

Yep, Libya sounds like a paradise.  (I'd be curious where the OP got his "facts" R/E the benefits given to Libyans; as contented people rarely rise up in a fight to the death with their government)  For all those here that think the US is so bad, why not move to Libya?   Of course, you better leave your computers here, cause if you expressed your opinions over there like here, you would end up in prison, if not dead... :)

Swampman , I don't think you will see Obama jumping on Iran. They are very capable and willing to fight back! We should have left Iraq alone and took out Iran. With the reduction in our forces and depletion of our fire power I doubt that with out going nuclear we have the force to do it.

I don't think we are to far away from the.... prison for opinions here in the USA.
And since when did complaining about our corrupt leaders, and minding our own business make us Anti-American?

I for one don't care for the direction our government is leading us, and don't plan on leaving because of it! I would prefer to try and help change it. If I was looking to move, it damn sure wouldn't be to Libya

Here is an interesting read by Pat Buchanan, and his thoughts on the US being in Libya.

A bully on the playground starts beating the &*#$ out of this poor kid to weak to fight back and for no good reason. Maybe he wants his nickel. Would you support that bully?

Libya is in a civil war. It is two sides fighting for one government. So we go kill a bunch of them when they haven't done anything aggressive to us or any other nation. It surely does not follow the policy of our founding fathers, nor a policy of liberty. To go along with a repressive government is so un-American. Nationalism was Hitlers propaganda.

We fire 131 Tomahawks at a cost of $600000 each. England fires two. We are $14000000000000.00 dollars in debt and adding to it faster than at anytime in history. It don't make good sense. We are destroying ourselves for no good reason.
