New Tamer 20

Added Choate conventional stock and forend, front and mid-bead sights, Limbsaver recoil pad and buttstock cuff.

I added the sights for low light conditions. 

My other Pardner 20 is set up the same way.

I'm hoping the the Mrs. will take to this.

I plan on using Federal low recoil personal defense #4 buck.

Is the front sight the one that clips on the barrel and aligns on the bead?  I would love to locate these.....

Good lookin' gun.  The Mrs. should like it.  If not, put some flowers on the stock......... ;D

Thanks for the kind words.

The front sight does exactly as you say.

This is what I used for the front:

In all fairness, when I set my Pardner up this way a long time ago and posted about it, I said that the mid-bead was a rear sight available from HiViz.  Not true.  They are both front sights.

I chose the Hiviz for the mid-bead because of the looks.

To whomever I made that misrepresentation at that time, I apologize. 

I was wrong.

Ben:  Glad to be of service.

Markus:  Long answer: The only gun she has ever fired was a .22 rifle many years ago.

We've talked about it and, as I said, I bought some low recoil home defense shells (Federal).

Short answer: I have no idea as to her recoil tolerance.

Is there something I should know?

Even though it's a 20ga it will have substantial felt recoil because it's such a light gun.have you shot it yet?

Markus: Haven't shot it yet-----hope to this week sometime.

I think my Pardner would be tough for her but I was hoping the built-in recoil pad on the Choate stock and the additional Limbsaver pad would be something she could handle.

Especially with the low recoil stuff.

Have her stay loose, not tensed up anticipating it going off, while standing NOT benched. Of course, the pad needs to be on her shoulder and dont let her crowd her cheek down on the comb trying to aim it like a 22.

I've never tried any of the low recoil buckshot loads or any of the reduced recoil loads for 20 GA. Let us know how it works out. It's always great when you can spend some quality time shooting with the Mrs.

Finally shot this little rascal today for the first time.

Fiocchi 2 3/4 inch, 7 1/2 shot trainer & Federal 2 3/4 inch #4 buck.

The Fiocchi stuff was an absolute pleasure to shoot but they didn't always eject-----maybe 4 out of 10.  Very little effort with a fiberglass rod managed to 'pop' them out.  Taking a tip from the FAQ's, I guess I'll carry a ball bearing in my pocket.

The Federal stuff kinda rang my bell.  Of the 10 I shot, all ejected cleanly.  No way the Mrs. could/would shoot these. 

I was shooting at what I'd guess is home defense range into a good-sized piece of cardboard and it looked to me like a pretty good pattern from both although I know very little about patterning.

Ball bearing, or any subcaliber pistol or rifle round (they fit in cartridge loops already) will give you a nice drop/pop.

I've left my Tamer 20 stock, fits the purpose I bought it for but the short / light guns recoil has always been an issue...3" shells especially can be punishing.  A few yrs ago I picked up a pair of LittleSkeeters 20 to 28 gauge reducers for it...they work great, something you might consider for your wife as there's a big reduction in felt recoil (Brownells sells them).  The metal LS mini reducing tubes won't stick but the shells will, just keep that ball bearing handy.  I see a lot of people modify their Tamers, liking the barrel length / plating but not so much the furniture...always nice to see a custom, I like those sights...

TYM2MOTR: I also have a pardner 20 gauge and have managed to put away a stockpile of 20 gauge ammo.

The LittleSkeeters are a great option but not a fit for me.

grank: I don't own a pistol so the ball bearing is the next best idea, I think.


All: Would adding weight to the Choate stock help with the recoil issue? 

Seems like a pretty big cavity to fill. 

Marbles?  BB's?  Air soft ammo?

Just buy a 28ga and a 410 if you want less recoil. Everyone should have an H&R in every gauge.

Try an old sock filled with lead shot. Stuff the sock in the stock and "fill er' up".
