Got a job!
« on: March 24, 2011, 06:48:06 AM »
Well, now that I'm within hours of my final out processing from the USAF I finally have a solid job offer.  I've submitted applications in Alaska, Germany, Texas, Kentucky and Oklahoma.  I have a solid offer in Kentucky and a tentative offer in Germany.  The only problem is Congress!  Without a federal budget the government isn't filling civilian positions and a lot of companies aren't hiring to fill government contracts.  I have a firm offer and will sign the contract this afternoon for a position here in San Antonio.  Looks like I'll have about 3 weeks off and then come right back to the same office as a contractor.  It may not be my dream job or location but it's a job.  I figure it's better to take a certain job than to wait for Congress to get off their rear-end's and pass a budget so I can get possible job.

It's been a great run for almost 24 years.  I hope the next phase of life is even better.  I'll be around GBO but maybe not as much for a while.

I hope it works out even though you preferred a different location. I'd like to know what you find to do for fun. Is there stuff right near San Antonio that are hunting and fishing friendly? I'd be drawn more to the Edwards plateau to look for hunting, and Corpus Christi/Port Lavaca for fishing.

Either that or I'd find new stuff to like. I'm not sure what I'd do. God, I hope there are some good shooting ranges there.

Congrats NG. My roommate when I was in Vegas did the same thing. He left Nellis as a retiree and hired right back on as a contractor in the same Nellis office. He is very happy with it. If you get up Austin way I'll buy you beer!

Congrats!  ;D on the job, I know you were a little worried for a while.
There is some good hunting in the Texas hill country, I was down in Mountain Home for a course, and man did I see some game. You do have to look around for some public land, or get permission from a land owner. Most of the area is owned by King Ranch. Anyways, glad things are working out for you.

Congrats. Twenty-plus mil retirement combined with a double-dib gig is sweet...
