Who's loading 12ga Slugs R Us SPW?
« on: September 26, 2011, 06:25:26 AM »
I have a Savage 210 I've been working on and just started shooting. It doesn't like most discarding sabots too well. The best they do is 3-4MOA except the Remington Accutip with averages 2MOAish with an occasional two in one hole and a third an inch or so away but those are RARE. It likes the non-discarding sabots best; Hybrid EXP, Buckhammers, etc. I've got a bunch of full bore solids to feed it next. After that I'll load up some of the SPW with pistol bullets.

I want to load the SPW with some heavier pistol bullets like the 400gr Barnes Buster or the 460gr conicals I use in my muzzleloader. Has anyone had luck with a setup like this or should I just buy their hammerhead slug with SPW?

The attachments shows what it will do with non-discarding sabots:

I've used pistol and ML bullets and none have grouped any better than the original Hammer head's. I think it's because of the slower twist and medium velosity. The HH slugs are front heavy and bullets aren't. You should cut your groups in half with the Hammer heads. Another good shooter is the Lightfield IDS Commanders, but they are more $'s. I'm into loading full bore slugs now and they are very accurate.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.
