Things that made you go Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
« on: April 06, 2011, 03:22:45 AM »
Well I got stuck into what I thought was gunna be the last part of the repairs on my sons superlight handi just  tuning up the trigger ! Well I followed the instructions for the FAQ's and all was proceeding well :) ! Until  I decided If I just dropped the trigger out one last time and stoned it again I would have the prefect trigger pull ! Yes Right about now you guessed it ! should have left well alone! ;) Thought why 5 strokes on the stone when 15 will get me there quicker ! Wrong  :o Should have heeded the warnings and gone softly softly just like  the instructions said  . Well long story short I now have just reordered a new trigger, from my favorite guns part supplier Numricks!
I am getting smarter now tho ,I am learning when ordering parts get at least 2 or 3 of everything as a back up. Man sometimes I could kick myself for being so stupid !

LOL  Been there done that!!!

The parts are only surface hardened so it seems not much is happening then all of a sudden you have gone too far!!!

Thankfully the parts are inexpensive and assembly easy.

Glad it's on the mend!!

Kiwi,

I believe you are just the latest in a long line of Handi gunsmiths to remove just a little too much metal.  The first barrel I fitted needed about .005" of metal removed from the pivot, after removing about .007" of metal I then learned out to install a shim. >:(

Good luck with your project.

I live in a COLD place and I never mess with trigger pull.  I have to wear gloves seven to nine months of the year and have to poke a gloved finger through the trigger guard.  I don't need to pop one off doing that, so I leave all my Handis at factory trigger pull.

Isn't it funny how quickly you learn from you mistakes .Its true about how inexpensive and easy it is to get  replacement parts ,I guess thats one of the main reasons  I  coming to  really like about Handis. Yes this handi is fast becoming like the woodman's axe. I've replaced the hickory Handel 4 times and that's the second axe head in 20 years but its same old axe I brought 30 years ago they don't make em like they use to aye ;) Pete I'm hearing you ! but I just couldn't help myself I've never had a go a amateur gunsmithing before and Its kinda fun! I think its part of my handi addition thing I'm going thru at the moment. Man its a slippery slope just can't stop meself. ;D

I have done things like that and I actually learned from it long ago.... Now I just order a trigger shoe and leave the delicate work alone.  Nice though to know the info is posted for any of us who may need to dig in sometime..... But I really try not to.  thejanitor

One needs to develope the 'rule of halves'.
If, for instance, you think you need to remove .010, remove .005 and remeasure or test. If you still need to remove some, say, now .004, you do .002 and remeasure or test, etc. You get the idea.
It WORKS  ;D

Tyler MFG.  you can find them in a google search ("Tyler MFG. trigger shoe") I don't want to break any rules with a link, so please search them and see the site.

Thanks.  I really like trigger shoes.  Have them on all my airguns; paintball store and too small for Handi.  Haven't seen many on this forum though.  A good idea others might think about trying.

I've made a couple from black PVC pipe.  Grind and file a groove in the back curve with a file edge.  Not as cool as metal but it worked.

Good idea- May not be as "cool" as a metal one, but it also isn't 24.00 plus shipping..... I have them on all my Handis but two, and I want to get those shod. You used to get shoes from several companies, now as far as I know this is the only source.  And the way I mount a shoe is with a dot of silicone behind it after degreasing the trigger, just in case the screws loosen up. Your method may very well be what I try on one of mine..... Thanks for sharing.
