Tried a scope on my Huntsman
« on: April 03, 2011, 09:33:59 AM »
I mounted a 2.5x20 scope that was my shotgun scope on my .50 Huntsman ml. It shot good but I did not feel comfortable shooting it. Going back to the Dura Bright fiber optics. I am willing to sacrifice some accuracy for a gun that is comfortable to shoot. Also tried out the 12 gauge barrel I got from garbhead. FYI you do not want to put a 3" turkey shell in to see how it patterns. My shoulder looked like the wife was mad at me. Not to bad of a pattern at 25 yards though.

The scope worked fine. It was just too high for me to feel comfortable shooting.

Lots of info in the faq's about scope height. Also changing stocks to Monte carlo for scoped guns.I am not a big fan of scopes on ML or slug guns but with the eyes getting older I am having much trouble much past 40 yards with open sights even the fibers hoping the peeps will help that some.None of my scoped H&R's have anything higher than medium and most have low rings. Years ago after buying a Huntsman barrel, I went to shoot it. I found an old Bushnell 4x12 in the garage, and mounted. It's almost as long as the barrel, sits awful, etc. but I just wanted to see how the barrel shot.... The accuracy was terrific, with this setup. I was never more uncomfortable, and added monte carlo, thumb hole, etc... Rifle continued to shoot great! Over the years, I have shot a number of nice bucks with this... Rifle performed great, and I remain uncomfortable, with the whole rig..... I'm livin' with it, and won't be changing a thing!
