So far, it has been SUPER. We were predicted to have a lower number of birds, and probably do statewide. But...of all the people I know and hunt with, I was the ONLY one that had to take two days to get my first bird. It seemed everyone got a bird on Monday. I hunt with another guy, and we got one called in Monday that he shot, so I had to wait until Tuesday. I did get one of my nicest birds yet.
I have not heard any statewide reports on numbers so far.
We did not hear any late gobbling. After my buddy got his bird at 7:05 Monday I never heard another gobble and I always hunt until we have to stop at 1:00. Have been seeing lots of birds without hens, a good thing. Lots of single hens in the afternoons.
My wife hunted Monday, called in 3 gobblers, took the time to video them, and then shot one. She got some amazing footage.
The weather has really gone south now and heavy rain predicted through early next week.
What part of the state are you going to be hunting?
Good luck and enjoy!!
