O.T. - Happy Dad!
« on: April 06, 2011, 03:12:20 PM »
This post probably belongs in another forum but this is where I hang out.  Anyway, my son joined General Chuck Yeager on the fast side of the sound barrier this morning.  He is at Sheppard AFB, attending pilot school, and he was allowed to exceed Mach 1.0 today in a T-38 trainer.  If everything goes well, he will be an F-16 pilot in another year!

bikerbeans, That is neat and I can understand how you must feel as Dad. That brought back memories as I went to tech school
at Sheppard and we use to go over to the edge of the flight line and watch those T-38 and F-5 trainers take off, etc.
Thanks for bringing back those happy times from over 30 years ago. Also send congrats to your son, and thank him for his
service.

Being a proud dad is a good thing!  I had a girlfriend in college.  Air Force got her.  I offered her a ring... they offered her a plane.  They won.

Tom, It's a great thing your kid is doing.  I was selected for Navy Pilot training and being et up with the Yankee dumbass I got married instead.  I did get to fly just about every Wednesday when I was at Cecil Field, FL for almost 4 years.  Everything from T-28s to F4B Phantoms.  I rode the back seat and took the stick when we were over the ocean.  That's something I wish I had the opportunity to do over.  Thank your man for being there for us.

Truly a moment to be proud of.  My son spent 4 years jumping out of planes - lol.  Got tired of deployments and now "tells 'em where to go" - as a military ATC!

I sent Roy a link to this thread and he was blowaway by it.  Been a good week for him.

Doc,

Tell J2 that helping folks on the ground is what he wants to do most.  He said the air to air stuff is icing on the cake but the ground support is when a jet really makes a difference.

Tom,

He will be 28 in June.  He joined the Ohio ANG right out of high school and spent 9 years as a crew chief working on the F-16.  He kept after a pilot spot and finally got one after 4 attempts.

thanks all.

Tom, this thread brings tears to my eyes.  We will pray the Lord keeps him safe and hopefully he'll fly many ground support missions and save a lot of American and Allied lives.  You're in our hearts and prayers, Kid.  Be proud of what you're doing...we are.
