Any Beekeepers aboard?

Any beekeepers here. I've decided to give it a try starting next spring. Built a top bar hive according to directions of the barefoot beekeeper. I can probably use some helpful advice from somebody with some experience.

Google barefoot beekeeper. I built one according to his directions, and then put 3/8" rigid foam on the outside and then cedar shingles . Looks pretty neat to me I just hope the bees think so to.

There is more beekeeping stuff on Utube than you can even look at. I like the top bar idea, low cost, low maintenance, but then not as high productivity either.

I think it would be great to have some hives.  Growing up we had neighbors that had a fruit orchard and had a bunch of hives.  They made some of their income from selling honey.  But living in town I imagine the neighbors would frown on such.

Not by choice. I have some bees in an old house wall that has no insulation. Found them last fall. So far we have an agreement. I leave them alone and they leave me alone. Even when i fired up an outboard motor using muffs 20 feet from their home. I'm thinking of trying "no pest strips" slipped into the wall from the inside. Heard it will make them leave. Just not sure how far they would go. They could be in the way anyplace else. Bob

BW  You might do some calling around. There are people around who make their names known that they will come and collect bees. They usually want bees that are swarming, they are easy to collect. Getting an already established colony out of a place it isn't wanted is a lot harder.  I would call your local Sheriff first, they seem to know about everything going on.

If you can't find someone who will come and take them away, I killed a swarm once with one of those bug bombs that you set in the middle of a room and start it up and then leave the area. May not be able to get them anymore, I haven't seen NO Pest Strips in years either.
