Just bought my first double rifle

Picked up a Valmet 412S 12Ga. With a set of 20Ga. barrels, and a set of 30/06 barrels. I would be interested in a scope mount for it. And I would like to know the date of manufacture.

Hey Chad

welcome to GBO and congratulations on the Valmet2 purchase.  One option  for a Valmet scope mount would be to setup a search with notification on gun broker and ebay.

They come available every few months.

I dont know if records were kept on manufacture dates by serial umber.

Setting up a search sounds like a good idea. I will do that today.

Even a general range of when it could of been produced would be nice. The gun appeared new and unfired when I picked it up.
And I was curious about how long it sat in someones safe.

  What bbl set has the same serial number as the action?  That's the bbls that came with that action.

  The other bbls were probably bought after, and may have been properly fit to that action, or maybe not?  Only checking for proper fit by someone who knows what to look for, will tell for sure.

  What's the first 3 numbers of the serial number of the action, i "may" beable to give you an idea when it was made?

12Ga. is       # 250**7
20Ga. is       #286***
30/06 is       #226***

  I've did some digging and i can't find my old reference book that would give me some dates to put to serial numbers.  Sorry about that!

  Valmet came into the US under their own name in the early 80's, and the first gun i got in, has a serial number of 205....  I have a VERY early set of experimential bbls and they are #201....  One of the last serial numbers i got in before Valmet USA closed it's doors, i believe is close to 282.....  I guess you can put your's in there some place.

  EVERY Valmet action had a set of bbls with the same serial number when it left the factory...  BUT i know Valmet USA use to rob bbls to fill orders too.
