True Pistol grip
« on: April 20, 2011, 02:02:51 AM »

I am sure this has been covered before but do they make a true pistol grip for NEFs?

I mean one that is not tied in with a stock. I am sure there are legal issues but if you can do it with an Encore I am sure you can figure that part out, but wouldnt it be fun to take a 243 and put a grip on it?

I bought a few of those, they work good. but it needs a 22inch barrel to be 26inch overall for legalities.  because you know how it  would be too awkward to put a 26inch gun in your overcoat, so it foils the criminal element. the 25inch or 24 inch is just too dangerous, police would never be able to see people hiding those. I wonder if they had people test this, and the committee sat there and passed judgement on what looked acceptable.

Speaking of overcoats... I recently read somewhere that somebody official detained a guy who was wearing an overcoat because they thought it was too warm for folks to be wearing overcoats. Nothing actually came of it, just some hassle for the guy with the coat. But come to think of it, I believe the article said the guy had a beard too.

Because of that, there's probably a committee somewhere in DC working on creating an official handbook with a comparison of outside air temperature to clothing that people with beards will be permitted to wear without being hassled. And a follow-up handbook for beardless people. Shouldn't cost more that a couple hundred million taxpayer dollars to complete and publish them both.

Yes That is exactaly what I was asking for. OK lets go a step further what if you took the barrel to your favorite gun smith and they trimmed it down for you and you went an registered the gun as a pistol?

You could make an Encore (sorry to keep using that) or a Striker (although that is not a single) for less than half of the cost of those guns?

Have I been sniffing too much fiberglass resin?

My understanding is, that once a firearm has been manufactured and sold as a rifle, it must remain in a legal rifle configuration. There has been lots and lots of debate over the Contnder/G2/Encore situation, and will continue I'm sure. But from a letter from ATF I read somewhere not too long ago, the above is the "official" stance that ATF will take if it comes down to it.

I'll try to find a link to that thread. Think maybe it's on the specialty pistol forum..........

Sorry that thread is actually right here in Graybeard. Look under the stickies in the Thompson Center section.

And they are still debating the issue, BTW. The internet experts, that is.....

I agree, and bang the gavel, thy shalt not covet the pistole convert, this isnt Portugal!  A long gun is supposed to be LONG. It should be at least from fingertip to armpit. I wonder how donald trump stands on this highly debateable issue......Im going to go call the atf and talk to some secretary during lunch hour and see how she stands too.
