Help needed on H&R Model 265 Targeteer
« on: April 04, 2011, 10:48:09 AM »
I've never posted pics, or taken them with this camera, hope it works.
60 yrs. ago I broke the wrist of this stock.https://www.gboreloaded.com/mhp/images/Wblaught/1000014.jpg
30 yrs. ago I glued it back together(2part epoxy). 6 yrs. ago the glue failed.
5 yrs. ago I bought a stock from Numrich that was an 80% inlet. https://www.gboreloaded.com/mhp/images/Wblaught/1000013.jpg
I finished the inletting and the action fits fine. But , along with the bigger size, the stock has features I can't figure out.https://www.gboreloaded.com/mhp/images/Wblaught/1000010.jpg This groove is on the inside of the forearm.https://www.gboreloaded.com/mhp/images/Wblaught/1000011.jpg This groove is on the outside of the forearm. I feel I can cut down the outside of the new stock and fill the groove on the outside of the forearm and it will work fine. All pics of Model 265's I've seen on the internet have small stocks like my original. I would like to know what kind of stock the replacement is, or any other info I can find about this rifle. Thanks for any Help.

I am not familiar with your rifle but the last picture with the inletting may of been some thing that was for an attachment like a bipod or something else they may of been using in those days for Target shooting. Just a guess tho. BTW welcome aboard!! Hopfully some one can help ya out. Kurt

That slot in the exterior of the forearm looks suspiciously like the slot on the M65 and 165 H&R's for the cocking lever.  A multi gun stock?

Looks like a small bore target stock of the period c/w inletting for a barrel band and possibly a handstop rail. Take a look online at Rem.513 s and Mossberg 144 s.

wblaught: this is a bit off topic, but I wanted to let you know how you might post pictures from "myhostedpics.com" so that they show up in the body of a posting, or even in a PM to someone. Forgive me if you see this as meddling, I just made the assumption from your comments about the camera and that you'd never posted pics before that you may not be familiar about how to get pics inside your actual post. So if you are offended by what follows, I apologize in advance.

When you log into your myhostedpics account and click on "My Images" all your uploaded images will appear. If you want to have your picture appear in the body of your text you select the link that starts with [ img] in square brackets. It should be the bottom of the three choices. You highlight, and copy that link, just like you did the links beginning with http:// that you already used in this thread.

Here's an example. I am going to put a picture a VP barrel on an SB2 receiver with laminated straight stock set in right here:
in the middle of this text. When you see it in the window where you are typing your text, the link will begin and end with the img in square brackets. That's your clue that the picture will appear within the posting.

So, to recap, what I did was go to myhostedpics account, find the picture I wanted, select and copy the bottom window that has the code beginning with [ img] inside square brackets, and paste it into the text at the appropriate point. In the first picture I also made a 'return' after the picture so the text went below the pic, rather than have it stuck off the side

- like this text is stuck off the side of the picture.

Hope this helps.
Cheers, Kerry

tallyho: I appreciate any and all help offered. Part of the issue of using "myhostedpics.com"is that a pic of my whole rifle (like you posted) won't be accepted because it is too big. So I cropped the pics to the size I used. A relative is going help me with this computer this weekend, so after a tutorial I may be able to use the information you provided. Thanks again.

gcrank1: I briefly searched for Rem. 513s and the groove in their stocks looks the same as my replacement stock. I've never participated in formal target shooting so I'm not familiar with the hardware. I will research the target stock angle more. Thanks for your help, it is greatly appreciated.

quickdtoo:   Thanks for the info, when I checked the sites for the software they apparently don't support Apple computers. In the end, this may be the issue  , along with my computer illiteracy. Thanks again.  wblaught
