I gave copies of this to my children when they left the nest

and the affection of children;

to earn the appreciation of honest critics

and endure the betrayal of false friends;

to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others;

to leave the world a bit better,

whether by a healthy child,

a garden patch

or a redeemed social condition;

to know even one life has breathed easier

because you have lived.

This is to have succeeded. :)

The older that I get the more I realize that it's the marks that I leave on others lives that help them, wheather they know it or not, that mean the most to me. It makes my life better every time. ear

I remember getting something like that as a teen. I thought it was ridiculous and threw it away before reading even a few sentences. Now I realize the wisdom of it, but it took a long time to get to that point.
