synthetic forend question
« on: April 19, 2011, 10:27:03 AM »
I looked in the FAQ section and couldn't find the answer to this question........

I recently purchased a synthetic stocked .357 magnum handi and noticed the forend is tight against one side of the barrel and has
a gap of about a 1/16 of an inch on the other.  It shoots fine (1/2" groups @ 50 yards) but I was wondering if there was an easy fix to center that forend or should I leave well enough alone?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Sandpaper and a dowel(broom handle) assuming the forend stud is centered, anyway.  ;)

With groups like that I'd be leaving it alone!

Tim,

Is this something you've run into over the years?

Thanks for your time,

Jim

I've seen two like that recently that were recent productions and the barrel lug appeared to be slightly off center on each.

Yes, it's not uncommon for the barrel to be slightly off center in the forend, it's usually not much tho, nothing a little sanding won't cure.  ;)

Rarely the foend stud is way off center which complicates things, but H&R is real good about repairing those.
