Good ol' ammo cans
« on: April 22, 2011, 08:12:15 AM »
Good ol' ammo cans. I needed a box to store spare fluids and fuel addititve in the trunk of my car so that it wouldn't open accidentally. I looked at some other boxes and didn't like them because they were either too expensive or didn't look very durable. The hardware store had some surplus ammo cans, and one was perfect for my application. Tough. Durable. Light. Won't pop open accidentally. Reasonably easy to open and close. Not bad at all!

Ammo cans are the best utility boxes made IMO. But yeah, be careful of temp as mentioned, volatile chemicals in confined spaces and all that. Ammo cans house my emergency radio, and FRS radio's when not in use. (EMP protection?)

Ammo cans are great. If you are truly worried about EMP wrap whatever you are fearful of in foil. Foil is great shielding and can handle some very good temperatures. Oh and foil does make a nice hat when the guvmint folks is about. ;D

Isnt your electronic equipment safe as long as it is turned off when the EMP occurs or is that just Hollyweird B.S.?

I went to the Army Salvage yard for an auction about 15 years ago.  Ended up with a whole pallet full of ammo cans of various sizes.  I have several that I use in the boat for things I want to keep dry.  I bolted a couple of the large skinny ones to the underside of the snow machine trailer to use as a tool box for the lug wrench, spare bearings, grease gun, and a small collection of tools.  Many are full of boxes of factory ammo.  I have given about half of them away.  Always finding uses for the smaller .223 ones.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

The ammo can is the greatest thing sliced bread(well sometimes).

EMP from nuclear weapons is a short burst that floods an area pretty much ruining active electronic equipment. A real strong static charge or lightening can also. Not much to worry about really.
