1860 Colt Signature Series
« on: March 19, 2012, 06:00:44 AM »
Hello Everyone;
I am new to the foreum.  I have been muzzleloading for 30 + years and have been working on C&B revolvers for about 3 years.  My Uberti and Pietta 1860 are shooting 1.5" groups at 50 foot with 30 gr FFF, .454 Speer RB,  RWS primer, Wonder Wad and I am very happy with their accuracy.  I recently purchased a 1860 Colt Signature Series and with the same loading it is spraying the target about 16" groups and 9" high.  Can anyone give me any direction with this pistol - not sure what direction to go in.  If someone has direct knowledge of the Signature Series that is what would help best.
I just picked up a Lyman #450229 mold for 155 gr. concials.  I know these are loading down to 25 grs.  Can anyone comment on loading this bullet in the C&B 1860.
Many thanks to all of you who share your knowledge and keep the gun culture alive!

All I can think of is maybe try some .457 dia balls, and maybe try with and without a wad. Good luck

.457 is typically the size used.

Try slugging the barrel, then the chambers.  I have seen them with chambers a full .010" under bore diameter.  This will do nothing at all for accuracy.  If you have this problem, buy a reamer about .001" - 003" over bore diameter, and open them up.  Use a drill press or milling machine.  Reamers can be had from any large metalworking supply house in .001" increments.  Should run you around $30.00?  You have to take into account however the availability of balls in the proper diameter after reaming the chambers.  I have shot balls only .001" over chamber diameter without any problem.  They still shave a little lead when seating.  Hope this helps.
