Hi,
I am new to the site and have done a search for some load information and seem to not have found what I am looking for yet. I am going to ask the question and see what help I can get.

I have some 350 gr. and 405 gr. cast lead bullets I want to load for my 45-70 handi rifle and need some load info for it. I saw on one post that IMR 4064 is a good powder to use and I have some of it already. If need be I can purchase some other powder. Just hard finding load info for the handi rifle on the net and I really like the little fella (rifle that is) and don't want to hurt it or me. Any help is greatly appreciated

Accurate 5744 is the powder to use. Not sure about Trail Boss.

trail boss is great for easy to shoot loads with eather the350 or 405 grain bullet. Ive had descent results with 4064 and 405 grain bullet. i would say your shoulder will tell you when to stop but eather bullet running 14/1600 will do anything you want.

I've got a load for the 350 cb's at the house.
I'll try and remember to look it up.
I've used both  4064 and 4198 with equal good results.
The little 350's are actually fairly pleasant to shoot............relatively speaking. ::)

I've used Trail Boss successfully with 300 & 350 gr cast bullets, I believe the charge was 14 gr. I found it to be an accurate, easy shooting round.

If you do a little searching on the NEF forum, you will find some places to start.  For light loads, you can find data for Unique.  For hunting loads, I use Varget with my 350's cast from a Lyman mold.  I started at 40gr. and worked up from there....

The 405's are very forgiving, and I can load from min. to max. and still get acceptable accuracy.  Most of my loads were worked up from the Lyman handbook.

I have used 14.5gr. Unique under a 405gr. bullet that accounted for 2 deer. (One shot apiece)

H4198 is the only powder I use in my 45/70 Handi.

Okay I was wrong. :-[
They're 340 gr. - LEE  457-340F Double mold.

Anyway here's what my Buffalo Classic likes.

Starline brass
Winchester WLR primers

IMR 4198 40gr ~1575 fps
IMR 4895 47gr ~1430 fps

It shoots them real well, usually better than I can shoot. ;D
Hope this helps you out a little.
