Savage 110 BA in .338 Lapua Mag
« on: March 26, 2011, 05:15:45 AM »
I'm thinking that this is going to be my next purchase.  Does anyone here have one of these? or shot one?  If so what do you think about it?
Thanks
JR

zeke, thanks for you opinion on the gun.  Seems all the comments that I've been able to find have been favorable.  I was looking at some of the factory rounds available for the gun, I was surprised at the $.  I had at one time thought about getting a .50BMG.  But as I reload for all my guns, the .50 would have required me to get a new press, and considering the price of the bullets, the special primers, etc. I just didn't feel it was going to be worth it.  Thats why I've changed my thinking to the .338LM...Larger choice of bullets, standard primers, I can use my existing press, etc.  Thanks again.

Looks like the AR30 I was going to buy when Armalite quite selling them to the public.  At that time everything they made was going to the military.  Shot real nice, but it had the Howitzer type muzzle brake on it.

Instead I bought the next cartridge up, the 338/378 Weatherby.

As for the price of ammo, if you buy factory it will be expensive.  If you reload it will still be expensive, but not as bad as buying factory ammo.  A pound of powder won't last long, I know.  I went through three pounds of powder just working up loads and sighting the gun in.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
