Older 22cal rimfire pumps
« on: April 21, 2011, 03:40:59 PM »
A while back i picked up a 1890 winchester pump and a 1906 remington pump to play with.  Today i found a savage 22cal pump for $199. and a ward's 22cal pump for $129. These prices were awesome. The ward's appears to have been made by savage but the receiver matches  and the forearm is a tad different. I have a thing for the older 22cal pump rifles.  There really neat to collect and shoot them. The savage is so old there is no serial number on it.  I have no clue as to how old it is.  Is there anyway to tell?   Bill

The SN should be stamped into the face of the front of the receiver, just below the magazine.

I sure like those old .22 pumps.  My Uncle bought a new Remington pump in 33 or 34 for $10 or $12.  I thought that was the prettiest thing ever.  As a little boy I remember marveling every time I saw it.

I had to go back a few pages but found the link member Huffmanite provided on the manufacture of the Wards Westernfield brand firearms. I too thought that one of mine was a Savage but turns out to be a mossburg. Mine is a WMR and always was a tack driver.

Mine is;

western field SB80A   - savage 29-D1  I believe.  I have the savage 29b sitting next to the western field and the receivers are exactly the same with the angled ejection port. The wood stock is the same but the butt plate is different along with the wood handle on the pump. The rear stie is different too.  But the complete receiver is exactly the same.

My savage has no serial number on it.  I believe its so old it was manufactured when the firearms had no serial numbers.  There is no serial number on it anywhere.   It has the tubular magazine. But like you said i will look at it again.

Shouldn't you have said; WRF instead of WRM... WRM should mean Winchestr Rimfire Magnum... WRF is Winchester Rimfire, a cartridge with a case larger than 22 Rimfire.
