#3 vs Handi
« on: April 23, 2011, 06:32:23 PM »
Guys, DAQ. Can I load my Handi (new) 45-70 w/book Ruger #1 loads? I know how hard my Ruger #3 kicks w/them but just wondering if the ammo will exchange between the two safely, Thanks-Muddy

See WHAT LOAD LEVEL FOR 45-70? in the FAQs sticky.

My standard H&R 45/70 does not like my #3 loads at all and it makes my #3 recoil seem mild.I'm sure the H&R BC would be much better with the hotter loads

Yup, it's all in the FAQs!

I find the vast majority of shooters shoulders are "weaker" than the handi action.  Meaning you won't like shooting the top loads that can safely be fired from it....

swifty,

A scoped, unmodified handi 45-70 and a Ruger #1/#3 load is a great recipe for a good case of scope eye! :o  It will also test the fit & lockup of the latch.
