Magtech 410 brass

Hi All,

Anybody use this brass in their 410 or 45LC/410?  I am curious if someone has a piece of this brass if you can give me ID of the mouth.  Also, if you have shot this brass in a Handi how did it work for you?

I use the 24ga. in my Snider .577; note that it comes in LR primer pockets or shotshell battery cup type. The LR is my preference, and the inside base is like the old balloon head, not cartridge rifle case heads. That is,you can look down in and see the bump that the primer sits in.
The brass tends to be tough and a bit 'brittle', so for my application annealing of the top neck 1/3 is recommended (I have to size the trimmed to length brass necks a little).
Pretty good stuff, to me. I think the 28ga. with RB loads in a 28 smoothie cyl. bore would be neat.

I just measured one for ya and it's .441 inside diameter.

I use .45 Colt dies with a 7.62 x 54r shell holder to load these.  I've loaded them for the American Derringer in .45 Colt/410 and they work well.  I use large pistol primers in mine.  A 7/16 leather punch from Tandy is good for cutting some wads.  They fit nicely in the case.  Also .437 cast round balls roll down the case well too.

I have not used magtech 410 brass. I found this guy his prices are higher but they take 209 primers and the proper size reloading components. I found some reviews when I was looking at using 444 marlin brass.

thanks for the measurement.  I read somewhere that the mouth ID was over .45" and that seemed a bit large.  I found that 410 hulls fit perfectly in a 7mm Mag shellplate, least ways on a Dillon 550.   I am thinking over trying a little experiment so I will probably order some shortly.

thanks for the link I will take a look.  I only shot slugs and roundballs out of the 410 hulls so the ID isn't as big a deal to me as if I was loading shot.

Hi BB, I use the Magtek brass in 2-3/4 length  and have for years. The use is for mongos and slugs. I had a 410/45 and was tying for accuracy. Worked ok. Not a success. I still use the brass. Once fired in the 45 cal bore no good in the 410. I have a Super Comanche pistol, it was the first handgun I ever bought. Don't buy one except for fun. I graduated to 9.3X74R brass. 2-7/8ths long. I use this in the 410 tamer I have with 410 copper plated bullets and it works good. Expensive brass but I have only lost a few and it was because of reloading errors. I now use regular 410 shells for shot and the brass for slugs. Large pistol primers and what ever fits in the shell. I also load 45LC shell with #6 shot and GC, one upside down over the powder and one as a over the shot wad. Great at about 20 feet. I have killed a few things with this at camp range. The GCs do the job on bigger kritters.

I have used them in my 45/410 handis, but went to using regular 2 1/2" and 3" hulls and am roll crimping them.  That system works a lot better. I use a Lee decapper and made a sizing collet by drilling a .477 hole in a peice of stock.  (I think it was .477"). Then a small socket to tap in the primer. The rest is gravy, as all you do is charge it, seat the wad with a dowel, and roll crimp it.  They work great and throw some pretty good patterns to about 25 yds.
