be very careful, they will bounce back just as fast and as far as you shoot them down range.

I helped shoot one a few years back,  in the marsh and at 100 yards it hit a pine tree and sent the ball back over our heads just as fast as we shot it down range. we took the gun and threw it in the river. scared we would be drinking something good and want to shoot it again.  it was a simple piece of pipe that we welded several layers of Pipe together and a end cap on,    YES VERY STUPID.  but we were just kids, and didn't know any better.  kind of like the potato gun that we few with  oxygen acetylene   we are not sure where that potato went but it went out of sight and still climbing.

now we are a little safer.

So Bill, tell us ... have you received the mortar yet? If so, and if you've tried it out, how'd it shoot? Any pictures? I have one on order and am anxiously awaiting its receipt.

Cleburne: Just got back from a trip to Dallas/Waco/Baylor and there was this nice big box from Ed. The gun is very well machined and finished. It may be a while before I can shoot it, but I will certainly report when I do. I may build a quickie carriage with wooden wheels just to get the tube shootable and save the semi-authentic Second Prairie carriage for a summer project. I'll try to get photos of the tube up ASAP.

Congratulations Bill! I know we're all looking forward to learning how she shoots. In my excitement over having one of Ed's golf ball mortars on order, I misread your original post and didn't see that it was a GB howitzer you had coming. It looks terrific!
