Blue wildebeest and the 300wm
« on: May 20, 2011, 10:04:20 AM »
So I took my 300 for it's first hunt!  ;D After a couple of hours walking I spotted
a herd of bwb about 400 meters away. The wind was in my favour so I started
stalking them.
It took me about an hour to get within about 150 meters of them. I mostly used
long grass for cover. I setup my shooting sticks behind a small scrub and stood up slowly. I selected this
nice bull and waited for the others to clear from behind him. This gave my time to relax, standing there looking at them
through the scope.
The moment he was clear I aimed high on the shoulder and slowly closed my finger. At the shot the bull
dropped and never moved again.

Thanks - It's a Zastava with double triggers - back one sets the hair trigger. I used Sierra 200gr
Game Kings and was supprized by the lack of meat damage.
I also shot a young impala ram - some good penetration. The bullet had 169gr left
from the original 200gr.
