Ive already went my first season last year realizing I still know nothing about Turkeys. So Im hoping to gain some knowledge so that this season is not as bleak. My main question right now is about locator calling outside of mating season. I ice fish during the winter and find myself near some nice looking woods. Im thinking of dragging my locator call (a quaker Crankin crow call,) and friction call out with me to see if I can hear anything, or do a little scouting if the fishing gets slow. But will a locator call still make a Turjey gobble outside of mating season? Would I be wasting my efforts?
Plus, my friend and I know where a good sized flock of Turkeys are. We saw them in a posted field while deer hunting. On the back side of that property is power lines that we can get close to the posted property. Is there any kind of trick we can do to get those birds to come off the posted property? We still need to scout the area specifically for turkey so I dont know if the roost site is on the posted property. Any help is much appreciated.
