Conspiracy or Evolution? The Dumbing Down of Citizens
« on: May 13, 2011, 04:01:12 AM »
Was wondering about your thoughts on the current educational system?

Everyones thoughts....if anyone is able to 'think for themselves' any longer.  After all, there are many famous individuals quoted in wanting to 'Dumb-down America', or make a 'Workers, not Thinkers for America'.
John D. Rockefeller was at one time comfirmed(although the 'net has been expunged of this quote) with saying, "I don't want a nation of thinkers, I want a nation of workers.".  Later going on to 'back the General Education Board' with his millions he learned that the education of Americans could be controlled by the money given to it.  Would you like to keep receiving monies, or actually do the right thing and teach.....money will win everytime.
The new cirricula was now in place, and with Wunditian thoughts and Rockefeller money it was well accepted by those receiving the paychecks to teach using new textbooks(1920 through 1924-ish timeframe)...the following years resulted in students that couldn't read and write to 'acceptible levels'.  If you think this is far-fetched, research some older House transcripts and compare them to todays speaking on the floor.....the command of the English language has gone to crapola!!!

So have you been 'molded' by the education system?  I think most have, and it has been a process of the past 'powers that be' and drugs........yes, I said drugs!  What do you think there are so many psychologists working in the school system for?  To evaluate students and place them on behavior controlling medications to keep them docile, to drug them right into accepting the 'status quo' and limiting their ability to be innovative/creative.
Yes, questions are asked of children, but nothing that would actually indicate 'free-thinking' or 'questioning authority'...only question like 'Will spelling be part of the grade?  When does the assignment need to be turned in?  Will I get credit for trying even if my homework is wrong?'......  Feel good education.
And as a parent that fought to keep his kids off this crap, I was called many things and even threatened by 'the powers' if I didn't conform to their wishes.....BTW, kids never took these pills, and they seem to have the ability to think for themselves!  And hopefully can be smart enough to avoid the coming years and downfalls intended for this once great country?
Ever wonder why there is fluoride in the water supply, and why it is against the law to not use city supplied water(where I live it is against the law to drill your own well for water)?  Do you know what fluoride is?(It's a toxin byproduct from manufacturing aluminum that actually causes tooth decay in older adults-so much for those nice white teeth when they fall out)
Now what is the main ingredient of Prozac?  Prozac is 95% fluoride!  Fluoride has been known to make you a zombie...ever seen people that took heavy doses of this stuff?  Zombies....

Seems I've jumped around...but it's all the same thing.  Dumbing-down of American citizens......

So are you one of the children that doesn't think for themselves, that believes everything told to them by the mass media/government, that puts down others for questioning everything around them?  I understand you want to do well, and remember everything you were taught in school....but they don't have control over you anymore!  Imagine again, be someone special like you thought you would be when you were 5 years old....before the 'MAN' got you!!!!!!

It hardly amounts to conspiracy, it's government policy.  Even speaking a comon language is an attempt to control free thinking.  And many of the same people who are suspicious of the intentions of public education are the first to yell "three Rs" "manditory testing".  I don't think current kids lack the ability to think freely, if anything they would be better off if they had more discipline and more of a comon education that involved something more than endless Miley Sirus re-runs, and video games.  Education was more regimented in the past but people often came away with a lot of knowledge which gave them the opportunity to  be free.

I do think that with one's own children there is a different caculation.  What is good for the average (if that) is not going to the best for any one kid, so with one's own kids there is the option of choosing something different. Just be sure one is giving them what they need and not what a parent wants.

Thom,

After reading your reply twice(wanted to be completely sure of what you intended to say).  I must disagree with the thought process....

It hardly amounts to conspiracy, it's government policy.

The education system had nothing to do with the government when it was first started(they only got involved when the money that could be made would profit them and give them even more 'control' over Joe-public).  The education system as it is, was started by the John Rockfeller(look for information on the General Education Board and the 'experiments with it), to create a nation of zombies that would work in his factories/oil industries and do what they were told to do without questioning anything.(this accomplished a couple of things....reduced free-thinking competition that would harm his bottom-line, increase his profit by telling workers that were not as intelligent that they only deserved wages to compliment their aptitudes).

I don't think current kids lack the ability to think freely.

If it's possible to ask one, you should question a few of the most recent graduates.  Ask them simple questions that involve the word 'why'....  The word 'why' isn't used a lot by teachers due to the thinking that would be needed by students to answer the question.  I've given a few interviews recently, and most 'newly graduated individuals' do not have a grasp on simple languauge...using words like "Ax you" to replace "Ask you"(that is dumbing down).
The local school has a Pottery class....really!  Why teach pottery to students?  Because it's easy to get the mind-numbed student to play with clay after eating the "blue pills and go in the rabbit hole" then to teach Calculus or Physcis!  Then again, maybe the nation is better off having a work-force of idiots?

I do agree with this statement completely!

Thanks for giving your response, and I'd welcome even more thoughts from you(or anyone for that matter).

back in 87 we had an exchange student from holland that did her senior year at the local high school.  she aced every test because she learned it all in elementary school. she spoke better english than us and knew more about american history.
lately the schoolsystem here has dumbed down so certain groups can make better grades.
our daughter was in advanced classes, not because she was super smart, but because we made her study and take pride in her achievments.

Back around 1960-1961 I served in Uncle Sam's finest(8th Army) in Korea. Several ( not all) of my fellow grunts( High School Grads) weren't able to compose a letter to their family or girlfriends and accepted( unhappily) help from this immigrant kid that only had 3 years of English from an American HS.
So at that period English was taught well enough.Absorbing it was another matter.

I did great in history, science and math but english was like a foreign language to me.

Bugeye,

We have a lot in common....I too did well in the catagories you mentioned, and I completely hated the idea of having to 'break down' a sentence.  It made no sense to do it!  Instead of teaching students in the class the 'more advanced' grammer and how to accurately use it, we were breaking sentences down for three months?  And let's not even talk about the required reading......

Anyone know why the American School System has billions of dollars thrown at it?  But the money thrown at it has really no effect in the outcome.  Just saw on the 'boobtube', that a local school that is completely failing in all catagories is being given an extra $2,000,000.00 for this next year!  And the individual interviewed stated that this money would help the teachers 'focus' on the students better.....what the??  My tax dollars for better focusing.....what are they doing with the millions already given to them?

I'll have to buy you a beer someday!  We actually are in complete agreement!!!!!

But whom shall we put in charge at the State level?  No career politicians or lawyers....and maybe a good interview to keep 'unwanteds' looking in from the outside!

after I retired from delta airlines, I drove a school bus for a few years. in the morning parents fed their kids the breakfast of champions "skittles" and they were wild!!!  after I got'em to school they took their ritalin and became little zombies totally incapable of learning. "most of'em just needed a good spankin".   I lay most of the blame for this at the feet of the parents. it's so much easier to medicate your kid than teach him disipline.  I was accused of racism for trying to keep order on the bus.
but not all were that way. I had a few that were so good that I wanted to take'em home with me.
interestingly, I never had any problems with the parents of the good kids.
we have enough conservatives her in Ga. to elect pretty good education folks.
it's just my county that has gone down the tubes.
edited to add--- most of the parents didn't bathe their kids. they soaked them down with coconut oil.   now when I see a coconut in the grocery store I feel nauseaus.
