La Caruna 1953 mauser

I bought a La Caruna 1953 Mauser (M43, I think?) with a 22-250 Ackley Improved barrel and Ram line stock for $200. Need some help with scope mounts for a varmint rig.

When I installed my 2 piece Leupold bases I could not close the bolt. The raer base blocked the bolt's downward turn to chamber.

Anybody advise which bases I can use for this action?

Shinjin,

I normally use a Leupold or Redfield one piece bases for the military 98 mauser type actions.   Or Weaver two piece bases.

Can you remove enough metal from the right edge of the rear base for the bolt to close and open ok, I have to do this on the Weaver two piece rear base.

No on removal of metal. It would remove or so weaken the rear screw hole it would be a waste of a good leupold base.

I never realized there was that much difference between military and commercial Rem 798 receivers.

Anyway I found the telephone number for one of our local and most accomplished gunsmiths RED ADAMS. Mr. Adams has been turning out Mauser rebarrels for years and I honestly thought he was gone to that great Gunshop in the Sky. So I'll take her to him for a decent re-blu and scope mounting. He'll also be able to check my chamber to make sure she's a safe shooter. The original owner's in a nursing home and can't tell me anything about his old girl so I'll need to verify a lot before I pull the first trigger.
