Finally got parts for 30-40
« on: May 08, 2011, 11:59:17 AM »
Finally got the parts for my NEF action and got my 30-40 together.  Took it out this morning and shot it a little using the loads i use in my 1898 Krag.  Got around 2" with open sights, now get the scope mounted, and work up a load for it.  Wife thinks that it is her's.  Lots to do on it yet to make it look good.

Sounds like a fun project. I found out the ladies like the handies. You mite have to hide it.

According to my gunsmith the rechamber from 30-30 to 30-40 was very easy.  He had it done in just a couple of days,  The worst part was waiting for the parts to fix the action.  I purchased the NEF from a friend for $50.00 becuse of the condition of the stock and broken hammer, firing pin, trigger, trigger guard.  Now it's all back together.  Wish i could post before and after pic's but no picture program in this computer.  Now just have to reblue and polish, mount scope, and build up a load for it.

I had a 30/40 rechambered recently from a 30/30 and really like it so far. It still has the pallet wood stock and forend, but some day I hope to change that. A Buffalo Classic set would look nice I think. So far it shoot everything well, but with IMR4350 and a 220 gr. Hornady RN it shoots exceptional.

Good luck with the finished product.

My load is IMR 4350 and 180 gr. spire point  hope to get 165 gr. to work also this will be a neet carry rifle for the black timber.  I now carry either 45-70 or 444 Marlin or a host of different rifles in my safe about 25 in different cal.  Real hard to decide what to take out.
