I don't care for funds.  You can subscribe to Investors Business Daily.  In the paper you get information on funds.  I prefer to hold the stock.  I can look at the holdings of a fund to find out the stocks they hold.  I then use the IBD to evaluate each stock.   I then use e trade to purchse.  One fee in and one out.  Holding a fund would have fees paid to the fund yearly.
