The straight stocked older Marlin's in .30-30, Texans included, are highly regarded and in my experience highly sought after. If you go a large gunshow, and look at all of the used guns, you are very lucky if you find even one for sale. They typically command a premium of $75 to $100 over the pistol grip models. They are lightening quick getting to your shoulder and are much handier to carry than the pistol grips.
Assuming the rifle is in VG+ condition, then $279 is an absolute steal. They typically go for $395 to $450.
