Blasting Powder vs Black Powder
« on: May 17, 2011, 02:52:41 PM »
I guess I put this earlier in the wrong section.

What is the primary difference and was DuPont's Blasting Powder ever used as a propellant?

Blasting powder is usually made with sodium nitrate instead of potassium nitrate. It is not glazed or broken into uniform particles. It would work in guns, but would give very inferior performance. Was it ever used in guns? I'd say the odds are very good that was the case somewhere. When it comes to guns anything you can think of has been tried at some point!
