Fire form ?
« on: May 14, 2011, 07:53:01 AM »
I have a 22-250AI bbl that I need to fire form the cases for, my ? is since I have 500 of these to do can I come up with a load that will shoot minute of Pdog @100 yrds or so instead of just wasting the powder and bullets to fire form? I know when I first got the bbl I tried fire forming some ammo that I already had loaded from another bbl shot about 15 of these and split more than half of them as they were way to hot but they actually shot pretty good out to 300yrds or so. I pulled those bullets and dumped the powder. I figure load on the low side of the scale to fire form but still take with me to SD in june and fire form at PD's. What say you? Any suggestions will be using Midsouth 55gr Varmint hollow points in a 22" 1-9 twist bbl single shot. Thanks for any help . Kurt

Kurt, I don`t know what you found, but can tell you that fire forming with lite loads does not work. I like to fire form with a good load for the parent cal. My guess as to the reason for your other brass splitting was that it was old brass and work hardened.
