.22" long .44 Mag Contender barrel???
« on: August 30, 2011, 04:54:06 PM »
I have a guy telling me he has a Contender barrel in .44 Mag. that is 22" long. Ive never heard of a rifle length .44 Mag Contender barrel...am I missing out on something here or is the guy full of crap? The length is odd too, rifle length barrels for Contender are 21" and 23"...unless Im mistaken about that too?

When the TC Custom Shop was open, you could get any length you wanted -- within reason, of course. And custom makers will cater to your specifications, including a 22" .44 mag barrel.

Considering that all the powder would be burnt in 12''-15'' of barrel lenght, unless he just wanted a longer sight radius, that much barrel lenght is a waste. 'Course he could just be one of those type's that thinks that he'll get better accuracy. And, if he ever seen a IHMSA match, he's be flabbergasted at how accurate a 10'' Contender barrel is. gypsyman

While you may have a point there, anything under 16" -- whether a waste or not -- would make it illegal.

In an Encore handloading will open up lots of options, some even using that long barrel.

I have a 26"blue I purchased from Ed brand new. At the time he had about a half a dozen of them for sale from the custom shop. I have 2- 16" contender barrels but like this 26" just a little better.
