357 max shorty ready to shoot
« on: May 18, 2011, 09:58:19 AM »
Just got my barrel back from Mel Doyle in Idaho. He cut and crowned the barrel to 16.5" and tapped for
a front site. Put a youth stock on it for my boy and will take it out this afternoon to sight it in.

Cute and stout.

Your're both gonna love it.  I do mine.  I have my scoped 16.5 Maxi on Buffalo Classic Carbine stock set.  They shoot .38 specials, .357 mags, .360 DW and the Max. Good Luck this afternoon.  Let us know how it shoots.

Looks nice. That's kind of the direction I'm thinking about going on a couple, one for me and one for the oldest grandson. The shorty seems like a real nice option for stomping around our farm. Thanks for sharing. ;)

Had a great session at the range. Met another fella trying out some cast loads in a marlin 45 colt lever gun.

The first 3 shots at 50 yards were on paper but high. Adjusted the sight and got 2 in the bull and 3 clovered
just under the bull. This was with 38 special hand loads 120 grain round nose and unique. I and the other guy got excited. Then i switched to
some heavier cast semi wadcutter bullets with the same powder and got an 9" group.  ????

Thought there might be some leading going on so tried some XTP 180 grain bullets with loads of
A1680.  Groups went from 2 inches to 1/2" groups as I worked up to 27.5 grains. This gave velocities
of 1960 to 1980 fps. This was very satisfying.

Late for dinner, wife got mad.

The gun weighs 6.5 lbs.
