Topper Delux Slug
« on: May 17, 2011, 02:40:30 PM »
This week end I was told of a garage sale with some guns. When I got there  they only had a Topper Delux Slug gun Serial# HJ 276---,  24" barrel  3" cylinder bore, and hammer safty bare. When I looked up the HJ in the serial # I came up with 1949. But with the bar safty on the hammer and 3" shell I assumed it was much newer. Did I missunderstand the list and it is a 1995. It has the H+R name on the left side of the nickel receiver and was made in Gardner mass.

I was not sure,I thought the  top part of the list was h_ serial # and from 1986 on  the N_ prefix serial #'s . I am sure it is not from 1949 so I must be miss understanding how the 2 letter prefix is set up on the list

Was it factory ported? Smoothbore or rifled? They made the topper deluxe slug both ways? I have one of the rifled versions with the factory porting and it's a tack driver. Did you buy it? I'm still looking for a ported smooth bore.

Markus: I think It is a factory port.  5 ports each side , slots 1/2" to 5/8" depending if it is inside or OS length and about 1/8" wide. The barrel is rifled. Yes I did buy it. At the price I could not pass it up and it will be much nicer to carry  than my 1100 Rem. Don't hunt shot gun zone much but I hate carring heavy bulky weapons.
