How do you make these?  Or, do you buy them?

Check the stickies at the top of the page. References: Cannon FAQ's, Posting Picture Books, the web, and Cannon Plans; there are three links in blue (that are now working) about making linstocks.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

I've made several simple linstocks by drilling a hole the size of the slow match through a 1" diameter wood dowel one inch from the end and feed the match cord through the hole and wrap the loose end around the dowel.  The slow match I use is 3/8" diameter available from Godwin's     http://www.gggodwin.com/cartgenie/prodInfo.asp?pid=261&cid=1

Dixie Gun Works sells the 1/4" diameter.

The super quick visco fuse from cannonfuse.com works very well with a linstock.   We used to make auto-ignitors with a few odd materials but in order to get the fuse to reliably ignite, we not only split it but mixed a paste of a few drops of water and 4Fa BP... dob some on the fuse end at/in the split and let it dry.  Kicks instantly when the linstock gets even close.  :)

Here is one I made recently. Loaded with old window weight cotton cord.

Made from a  7/8 X 7 inch piece of mild steel. Barrel drilled and turned in the lathe, part reversed in the lathe and center line of other end marked then carefully slit with a hacksaw. Arms forged to shape.

Top view showing slots made like the claw end of a claw hammer. Slots are beveled to a sharp edge on the underside

Spike made on the lathe.

Mounted on a 36 inch oak staff. Metal finished with a ferric chloride browning solution.
