Has anyone Made a Mauser into a 410 bore?
« on: May 25, 2011, 10:41:48 AM »
I have seen and Enfield made in to a 410 shotgun but was wondering about a Mauser (vz24). I have a friend with a vz 24 the barrel is ate up and the stock is crapped(yes I mean doo-doo.) the bolt and action are good and match. I was wondering could a make it into a 410. He offered it to me for a song and a dance because the only good parts are the action and bolt. I like the style of old Mauser but don't need it. My go to gun at the house is my 410. I figured if I could make it into a 410 then I'd give the old lady the 410 she stole from me.
I am aware it probably would be a single shoot. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Robert

I have seen mauser 12ga and 16ga so .410 should be doable. Has close to the same rim as a 45 don't it?

It can be done, but you see it being done with the Enfield or the Moslin Nigant far more often because with eather of these actions the bolt face will work with a .410 without haveing to be opened up. You just have to screw in a .410 barrel and it ready to shoot.

I wouldn't wreck a VZ-24 by making in a scater gun.  If you like that bore size make it a 416 Taylor.  Getting the rimmed case to feed will be tricky too.  A 1891 Siamese Mauser might be a better choice.

Could use a turkish mauser and not ruin a vz. Should be more than strong enough for the .410 and they were a lot cheaper last 1 I bought.

I'll trade ya a small ring for the VZ.  A small ring will handle a .410 or 20 ga.
