Winchester Model 37 "Steelbilt"
« on: August 01, 2011, 02:13:28 PM »
I will be acquiring a 20 gauge Model 37 this week in a trade. Owner says it's one of two that have been in the family for years. It's in pretty nice shape, except for light bluing loss, which is to be expected with such an old gun. I would like to know if there are any ammo restrictions to be aware of with such an old gun. I was told that mechanically it is fine, and has been used for rabbit hunting the last several years by the owner's son. Thanks for your input.

I believe all the model 37s are safe with current mfg. ammo. These guns are not really that old & were made with modern steel. Look on the barrel to see what length shells it's chambered for & use those in it. But even if chambered for 2 & 3/4 or 3" shells I would shoot the shorter shell. 3" shells get pretty abusive in the recoil dept in that light a gun.  ;)

I have one in 16ga. The 37s are great guns.
