5" J frame .357

Just got this one, wondering who else has one and how they are liking it.  I love mine, 26 oz. what a great trail gun.

Looks like not many folks got one of the 5"s.  I know they sold a lot of 3"ers.  I have one of those but always wanted a 5" and have not been dissapointed with it.  Too bad Smith has discontinued it.

I've had a 3" since shortly after they came out in .38 Special and then when they came out in .357 mag I traded the .38 on the first one I saw. I've had it ever since and I do like it. It has seen a lot of time afield as did the .38 before it.

When the 5" came out I looked it over and decided I'd as soon carry my 6" S&W 66 as it and a whole lot rather shoot it. I'm sure the 5" has a place for some folks I'm just not one of them.

Didn't notice this post before.  I have one, actually two of the 5" J frames, I have the .357 and the .22lr and love them both.  I put Pachmyrs on them to get a good grip and my accuracy improved dramatically.  They are my dedicated field guns for just general purpose, If I have a rimfire rifle I carry the .357 and if I have a centerfire then I carry the .22lr.  I wish they'd give us a .327 Federal version, I'd buy one sight unseen.

For a trail or hiking gun the 5 inch J frame sounds ideal. I like the idea of having one each in 357 Magnum and 22.

I bought the first 5" I ever saw then a 3" came along so I bought it too. Pachmayr decellorator grips make them easy to shoot with full loads. The 5"gets about 100 fps more than the 3". It the FIVE inch recoils more too. I find the 3 to be noticeably more handy but the 5 is prettier. My youngest son drools over the 5 so I am concentrating on the 3.

I looked at the 5" for exactly the same reasons as others do, as a trail gun, maybe a LW hog backup.  I settled on the 3" though because it became double duty as an occasional carry.

Thanks, guys for your responce.  I knew someone must have one.  I have the Pachmayr compac grip on the 3" and it's perfect
but for some reason does n't look ar feel quite the same on the 5".  The factory grip on the 5" is fine but I'm still looking for something better. I'm shooting 185 GC @ 1000 fps and that's easily controlled double or single action.  I have a 4" 66 but for hiking the 5" has taken it's place.
