Put a side mount on my 94
« on: March 24, 2011, 01:57:40 PM »
I mounted my 2-7X33mm Redfield Revolution scope with a Kwiksite side mount on my Model 94.
I was expecting it to be awkward being as it is offset to the left. Nothing could be further from
the truth! It is friggin awesome! You line up on the scope the same as if it were directly above
the bore. It isn't offset as much as you think it would be with the Kwiksite. The Kwiksite is a
fantastic mount. No gunsmithing required and you can change it back anytime no problem. Comes
with all the screws. That Redfield scope has fantastic clear glass! It's made in the USA too! Killer
scope for $150! For guys like me with not so stellar eyes that can't hit the side of a mountian if
the muzzle was up against it with Iron, peep, & tang sights this is a God send! Can't wait to hunt
with it. Here are some pics.

I put one on a friends M 94 about 30 years ago. I too thought it would be awkward but it was really nice once you got used to lining up on it.

Wonder how they would be for us southpaw shooters?
an unloaded wepon is equal to the same mass and volume as a rock.

Looks good.  You have a link for where to get that mount? Will the irons still be usable with that setup?  Thanks.

No you can't use the iron sights with this mount. They can stay on though. If you have a problem with
your scope it comes off with 3 screws. You can change it back anytime with no problems.

Way back in 1969, my best friend bought a new 94 for $79.00 and spent another $50. on side mount and 4X Bushnell scope.  We zero'd the carbine to hit "right on" at 125 yards.  Beyond this distance it shot progressively to the right.  At 75 yards, it hit slightly to the left and I do mean to say, SLIGHTLY.  Certainly not enough to cause a wound or miss.

My best friend dragged in over 30 deer with this outfit by the mid-1980's.  Keep in mind this carbine was a post-64 model which is despised by so-called experts. He hunts in 3 states:  Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia.   I spoke to him last month and he told me that his carbine is still bringing them down for his grandchildren but he currently hunts with a fairly new Marlin 308 Express.  I can't belittle a friend for buying a new rifle after over 40 years of service.

Plan to keep your knife sharp and dragging rope close for you are in possession of a genuine legend of a deer-getter!
30-30 is a KEEPER!!

I set mine up with this mount and a Leupold 1-4 X 20 mm scope on it.  Luckily, the open sights can still be used with this small scope.  I did some more load testing with this and just need to do my final sight in.  Will have two Zero's, have the opens set at 50 yards and will need to do some calculations to determine the best range to sight the scope in at.  Looking forward to getting in the field with this setup.
