7.62X39 heavy

I recently purchased a CZ Carbine in 7.62X39.  I would like to load something a little heavier than the 123/125 wghts.  I sent  CZUSA an email in regards to bore diameter. 308 vs. 310.  Their response was, to paraphrase, uhhhhhh..............don't know.   Slugged the barrel and it is .310 as I suspected, european mfg and all.  Any recommendations as to a 150 grn bullet without going custom.  Hornady lists the .303 Brit bullets as .312.  That would scare me a bit.  I envision the .308's bouncing from side to side going down the barrel.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hornady, Sierra, Speer and Woodleigh all make bullets in the .310-.311 diameter.

Depending on the amount of throat and twist you have there...I would say you have a real fine rifle.  I have always wanted a 7.62x39 bolt.  You can load it as what I call 'the poor man's Whisper'.  4-6 grs of Red-Dot with a 200 gr cast bullet sounds about like a pellet gun in my SHORT barrel...I would sure love to try yours.  Also, I have heard of many people winning matches with .308 bullets in .310 bores.
  In a nutshell...you can load it with .308 jackets, .310 jackets or .310-312 cast that is intended foe .308 barrels.

I have a Mini MK X mauser in 7.62x39 with a 20" barrel and .310 bore.  I shoot the Speer and Sierra 150 gr .311 and the Hornady .312 150 gr SP without any pressure problems.  I have found RL7 to be the best powder and get 2280 fps with the 150s.  Accuracy is about 1 to 1.5 MOA in the 1-9.5" twist barrel.  OAL limits the use of heavy bullets as the magazine allows a max OAL of 2.238".  Any bullet heavier than 150 gr really eats into powder capacity.  

I have found the 123-125 gr bullets to be entirely adequate for most shooting including up through medium size (200 lbs on the hoof) deer with appropriate bullet placement.  For varmints the .311-.312 85-100 gr pistol bullets available (I prefer the XTPs).  However, I recently have been shooting Sierra's 135 gr SP .308 bullet intended for "handrifles" and Speers 130 FP .308 for the 30-30.  With RL7 I am getting 2375 fps with the Speer and 2387 fps with the Sierra in the little MK X with 1.5 MOA also.  I have yet to shoot any game animal with either out of the MK X but I have shot coyotes and deer with the 130 FP out of a M94 winchester 30-30 and they work just fine.  The 135 sierra is reported to give excellent results in that velocity range also by handgunners.  The 135 Sierra may prove to be the best "all around" bullet for my little rifle.  

You might want to see if they will shoot in your rifle.  Lighter shorter .308 bullets don't do well in mine but the 130/135s do well, probably because of the longer bearing surface or they obturate correctly.

i use 185 gr cast bullets for my .303's and the mold is .311. i don't no much about the 7.62x39, but's that probably to heavy for that small case

If you have the throat for it, heavy bullets are a kick in the pants. Woderfull for sub-sonic loads with cast, and with careful reloading, very deadly with more powerful loads using jacketed boat-tails...etc.  But then, I have been accused of being a mad-scientist, most people don't do some of the crazy stuff I do.  My SKS is a lot of fun with 200 gr cast gas checks.

7.62x39 load for boltgun

In my Sako 7.62x39 boltgun I use Winchester .308" diameter 150-gr. Power Point FN .30-30 bullets with 24 grs. of RL-7 in IMI cases with the WLR primer.  Very accurate load which approximates the .30-30 from a 20" carbine.  The jackets on .30-30 bullets are fairly thin and soft and "slug up" fine to take the rifling in a .310" barrel.  I also find 22 grs. of 4198 very good.
