Anybody own a Savage AXIS (or EDGE)??

Thinking of getting one, and was wondering if anybody has one.

Good points? Bad points? Any thing, including what relaods it likes best!

ask me in a few months I just got a Savage edge in 223 and I am going to turn it into a 7tcu or 7mm I do like the feel of the rifle it is light and I think it can be a good hog gun  D Crockett

LHS, I have looked into the Edge/Axis & those who have them say they shoot very well, especially for a low cost rifle. I might go with one, If I wanted a low cost rifle that I don't intend to modify. Not likely  ::).

As it is, I prefer the Stevens 200- a Savage 10/110 @ a bargin price. Some "lucky" soles have picked them up for $175! The great thing about these is the availability of aftermarket parts. The Edge/Axis is so new that very little is yet available for it.

To me, a major reason for going with a Savage platform, is the ability to make the rifle almost anything we want. The only thing left of any of my Stevens 200's, is the basic action, everything else has been upgraded  ;D. Hope this helps-Jim

What is the difference between the Savage and the Stevens 200? I've had several people tell me to go with the 200 but no one gave me a reason why other than the bolt.

I'm not much into modifying anyway. Only thing I ever mod'ed was a Ruger 10/22.

I have a savage edge in 7mm-08.  Out of the box, it had some issues, at the range the first time, noticed that the trigger pull was so heavy that the stock was 'flexing' at the wrist... was a challange to shoot a group, ( when I started squeezing the trigger, crosshairs were moving  !!)   So, I took it apart, and fixed the trigger pull, got it down to a tad over 3#, and now the 'flex' is not a issue.  mine shoots under MOA with correct handloads.  I also have one in 223, but have not had a chance to play with it yet.   My plans are to maybe inplant a steel 'gizmo' in the wrist area to stop the flexing...  I really like the idea of a detachable magazine, I wish my Marlin xs7 had one.  Bob

I just bought one in 243 as cabelas had the camo stock with scope for 329 on sale. Trigger is real heavy but took care of that with a couple snipps of the trigger spring. I had issues with my xs7 shooting 100 grainers with the 10 twist so hoping the axis works a bit better with the 9 1/8 twist. to the range tmor to find out.

I am pleased. Just got back from the range and every handload I fed  the .243 was decent. I think I am going to stick with the Hornady 100 grain btsp. Four shot string at 100 yards. Fourth was a little wider once the barrel heated up. All in all a moa rifle out of the box with my first range seession and handloads.

The Stevens 200 will fit in most Savage aftermarket stocks.  The Axis/Edge won't.  I'd buy the Stevens 200.

Not true...  The newer Stevens 200 with centerfeed mag has very few aftermarket stock options.

When you add up the cost of all that after market stuff, would it have been enough to get a Savage with the Accu trigger?

Savage 110 take-off stuff is dirt cheap.  I can't see anyone wanting an Accu-Trigger.

I ended up getting a Remongton 700 with a scope I found on sale brand new for $200.00 off. I put on a Harris swivel bipod and am trying to find a sling that will work with the bipod.

She shoots tight! First shot went wide due to me, and the next two was touching at 65 yards. My brother shot it and put all 4 shots in a 1" circle at 100 yards after we moved the target back (He is a much better shot than I am).
