100 yard 44 mag grouping - sometimes I flinch just right....
« on: October 17, 2011, 02:19:19 PM »
Just got back from deer scouting/sight in trip to Southern Indiana.  Thought you all might like to see my three shot group of Hornady Leverevolution 225gr FTX.  I only see markings from two of the bullets on the plate, but target board had cloverleaf, so I think it's a legitimate group (unless I had a REALLY bad flyer that missed everything and those two hit an older hole!).

Shot "cheap" Blazer 240gr JHP to get it hitting where I wanted, but didn't get any groupings close to this one w/the Hornady.  I quit after this one string, as those Hornady rounds aren't cheap and I didn't want my buddy to ask for an unrepeatable performance! :-)  Why do my guns never prefer the cheaper rounds???

Nice group.  You can definitely see the edges of the 3 hits.  I hope my .44 likes the Lever Evolution bullets as well as yours does.  I will be hand loading mine but they're still a bit expensive...

On the other hand, gas to go hunting costs way more than bullets so I don't think I have much to bitch about...

mine will do that at 50yds but it opens up a little at 100yds, 240xtp's and 2400 work well for me.

That's an excellent 25yd group, lol. ;)  Stay away from the Borden area, especially close to Deam Lake. I have some big bucks penned-up out there just waiting for the season to open for me. ::)

Good Luck and Good Shooting!

Thanks, Dinny

awesome group!

I might have to break down and try the hornady stuff soon..

My .44 handi loves winchester white box 240gr (getting consistent sub MOA groups from it).. if you are looking for a "cheap" alternative to the leverolution stuff.. that might be an option..

Thanks for the compliments everyone.  If I shot a hundred more groups, it's unlikely I'd shoot another like that.

The downside to this kind of accuracy is that the gun and ammo are eliminated as possible excuses for poor future results.  Hmmm...might have to come up with some prepared excuses.

I have recently handloaded 50 FTX 44's. I hope they are as accurate. I wonder how they perform on deer.

My .44 likes the 270 Speer Golddots and they penetrate like nobody's business.
