My grandson and his wife were home from his duties as staff sgt at Parris island jiust this weekend.  The wife works there in Beaufort where one of her job duties is interviewing potential hirees and hiring if qualified.
      They were just this evening on the front porch, telling me how people come to apply for a job.  Some are  of course welfare recipients, some are not.  Rather than waste time and money she will often cut right to the chase, saying "our hiring procedure requires a drug test..will you pass a drug test" ?  Some few will simply say "no" and leave, b ut many will outright lie, saying they never use(d) drugs ...Then the test proves their lie !  One would wonder, "why would they lie and waste time, effort and money for both them and the firm ?  Well...I guess the drug use doesn't hurt their welfare status, in fact it apparently enhances their claim !
     Welfare should only be made available to drug free clients... And they should only get the basics to cook with ..potatoes, rice, pasta and other basics..no "prepared"..high calorie, low nutrition crap !
   Really; with her drive toward better nutrition, here is one place where Michelle could have a genuinely positive influence, making sure children of poverty get real, home cooked meals which provide real nutrition..and not "empty calories".

  What are the odds she will do that ?

We buy 99% of our meat at a save a lot store all drastically discounted. Last week We found a nice looking pork roast at .79 cents a pound, about a 9 + pounder. I cut most of the meat off the bone on one side, for a roast,  and then sliced some to pound up and fry, then thick slices for the grill, and a bag of thin slices to cook with kraut, or for the crock pot with brown gravy and cream of mushroom soup. We got 4 meals out of that one hunk of meat, a bit over $7. I never could see how some folks could just go to the store and just fill their cart with whatever struck their fancy. People need to make up a NEEDS list and stick to it, WANTS come AFTER the needs and bills are paid. There may well come a day when a lot of these picky and wasteful folks will be very hungry and be tickled to death for a scrap of bread or a bowl of beans. POWDERMAN.
