I got new brass and started with CCI primers in 50 cases but the load wasn't working. So I went back to Win primers on the next 50 and the load worked great. Problem is after cleaning and case prep, I put Win primers in all and noticed the ones that had previously used CCI primers were a very easy fit for the Win primers. Not falling out loose but very easy to put in.

Will this afffect accuracy??? That is 50 cases fit the Win primers tight and 50 fit the Win primers not so tight??? Am I stressing for no reason???

Sounds like your load may have been excessive with the CCI primer and that your primer pockets may have opened up because of that pressure. I can't be sure, but it could be the case given your comments about being unhappy with the accuracy of that load. It is of course possible that the winchester primers that you got were undersized, but you can eliminate that factor if you seat one of the winchester primers in a new case and see how well it fits.

I was thinking CCI's are oversized. Do you think the fit of the primer will affect accusracy?

Did you remove the primers before cleaning the cases?

Could the difference you are experiencing be the result of difference in the primer pocket residue between the two brands?

Also which cartridge are you having this problem with?

I have noticed Winchester primers always seem to seat looser than CCI's. I have loaded some before that were hard to get a good feel with because they were so loose. That is one of the reasons I only use CCI.

The cartridge is a 280 Rem, Norma brass. The cases were cleaned with the primers out. I read on another board CCI's are slightly bigger in diameter. This opened my pockets slightly larger than the Win primers. I am sure this is what caused the looseness. My question, is will the tightness of the primer affect accuracy???

This will teach me to try and change things. :oops:

I'd say your potential problems are not accuracy, unless you are benchresting, but pressure signs. Get a micrometer and mike the cases just ahead of the web between the two, loose and tight primer pockets. Then check for length between the two. If the cases are not stretched you don't have a problem. If they are I'd toss those cases.

I've had the same phenomona in my 8mm-06 with brass that I know wasn't overloaded. It was also between CCI and Remington primers. Fired them again and miked them and saw no difference, I still use them. I'm not accurate enough to determine if those cases make a difference in accuracy, but I don't think so. I do segregate them and shoot them together, so I might not know.
