Scope Mount for Bejamin
« on: January 09, 2004, 10:18:37 AM »
I have an older Bejamin Franklin pump 22 that has had it's sights broke off.   I was told that there is a scope mount available that clamps on the barrel.  Does anyone know if these are any good and where I can get one?

The Pistoleer,

They work just fine.  I use them on both of my Crosman 1377's and on a Sheridan Blue Streak I just got.  I prefer the barrel mount on the Sheridan due to it's strength.  I used a pistol scope for the longer eye relief.  You can buy them direct from Crosman(at http://www.crosman.com/portal/crosmanhome.nsf/storecontent?openframeset) or from a number of other outlets such as Airguns Express.  Look for model #B272(Readies your air rifle or pistol for pin-point sighting devices. This 4-Piece Intermount fits (current production) Benjamin and Sheridan air rifles and air pistols.) they are the ones I put on my Sheridan.  The model 459MT is the ones I put on my 1377's.  Lawdog

Pete, which model BF is it? The B272 DO NOT work on many older Benji guns as the barrel OD is somewhat smaller than the Sheridan barrels. Benjamin did make similiar mounts for the 312/317 rifles, and they were caliber specific. They are tough to find however. Your best bet is to get a Williams 64 peep, the one designed for the Benjamin/Sheridan lineup, and have someone drill and tap a set of attachment holes on the side of the breech. They are available directly from Crosman or most any dealer that sells the B/S line of guns.

One other thing, the 459 isn't the correct mount for the 13xx guns. The right one is the 457mt. The 459 is a bit to short for guns with a spacer between the tube and barrel, and can rock side to side. The 457, however, attaches firmly and sits right on the tube, no movement is possible.

Dave, I meant to include that it was a model 312.   I really don't want to go to a peep since the front sight is broken off.  If worst comes to worst I supose I can concoct a front sight from JB Weld. :-)

I gather from your post the current ones won't work on the 312.   Is there any other option?

If its just the post thats broken, you could try to get whats left cleaned up, squared off, and have a new piece of brass brazed or soldered on to it. Leave it a bit high so you can fine tune it down a bit if neccessary. Other than that, you could try to find someone to make a set of clamp-mounts that wil fit the 312. You could try calling Precision Pellet too. Rick Wilnecker there may just be able to get his hands on the proper clamp mounts for the 312.

Bryan & Associates is another good place to try

Dave, thanks again for the reply.  I have sent Rick an e-mail asking for any help he might be able to provide.

It probably wouldn't be that difficult to make some clamps but since I no longer have access to a milling machine it would be more work than it's worth.

I  really just want something to shoot the gophers out of our garden.  Maybe I should just buy a different gun.

I am sorry but your information here isn't right it's the 7-457MT that allows the scope to rock around.  I have two 1377's and both wear the 459MT mount that is recommended by Crosman.  Neither slip or rock around.  The mount fits solidly without allowing the scope to change POI.  As stated in the Crosman web site;

"459MT
Allows the mounting of 3/8" dovetail scopes and sights on models 2240, 2250, 2260, 2289, 1322, 1377, 1740 and 1760 airguns.  Price: $11.99 US"

"7-457MT
Allows the mounting of 3/8" dovetail scopes and sights on models 357, 1322 and 1377 air pistols.  Price: $11.99 US"

The 7-457MT is a less stout version and doesn't fit near as well as the heavier 459MT.  I tried the 7-457MT and they didn't work on either of my 1377's when using a 1" scope and rings for dovetail mounts like I did on mine.  They cost the same but the better mount is the 459MT.   :D   Lawdog
